5 Signs Your New Spark Might Lead to Something More

5 Signs Your New Spark Might Lead to Something More

Sometimes it feels like two people really hitting it off and entering a successful, committed relationship is nothing short of a miracle. So many different forces have to come together to bring a new relationship to life, and then not to mention endless trust issues. It’s human nature to be afraid to put yourself out there out of fear of getting hurt – sometimes it’s easier to self-sabotage something good or convince yourself that things aren’t going anywhere rather than take the jump. We want to protect you from heartache, but also don’t want you to ruin a good thing! To help, we’ve outlined a few signs to look out for when dating someone new to understand if it’s time to wear your heart on your sleeve.

1. You’ve stayed up all night talking for hours

It takes a certain level of commitment to give up hours of beauty sleep to stay up all night talking to someone. Plus, if they’re spending that much time talking to you, they’re probably not spending a whole lot of time talking to anyone else. Some of the best, deepest conversations also happen during those all-nighters so it’s a good sign that you’re getting to know each other on a deeper level.

2. They ask about your family and friends

They’re starting to remember the names of your family members and closest friends! They ask you follow up questions about them from stories you’ve shared, and have expressed an interest in meeting them or spending more time with them. When someone puts in the effort to get to know the people that matter the most to you, they’re showing you that this is more than just a casual fling to them.

3. They talk about and make plans for things that are well into the future

Are they asking you about tickets to a concert a month from now, or hinting at spending an upcoming long weekend with you? Chances are, if they’re planning ahead, they’re taking this seriously! Alternately, watch for how they react if you bring up a plan for the future. If they blow you off or get uncomfortable, they might need some more time. If it keeps happening as you spend more time together (whether that’s in person or virtually), then it might be a red flag that they might not be ready for the next step.

4. You go on a trip together!

Whether you skip town for a quick weekend getaway together, or they invite you to join them on an upcoming friends trip, a trip away together is always a good sign that things are progressing in a relationship. Quality time together gives you the chance to escape all the annoying distractions of daily life and share in new experiences together. Plus, spending more than 24 hours in a row together will be an amazing stress test for your relationship and give you the confidence to take things to the next level.

5. They’ve opened up to you about something serious in their life

When you’re getting to know someone new, it’s best practice to keep things easy breezy. You don’t want to scare someone off by getting too deep too quickly, and it also takes time to build that comfort level with someone and feel ready to share a bigger part of your life. A good sign that things are progressing in a relationship is when you feel that switch start to happen, and you get a peek behind the curtain. You’re not always getting the 24/7 happy, chirpy version of them on their best behavior. They start to let their guard down and share more intimate details about their lives.
