From Cold Feet To Cancun Sunsets

From Cold Feet To Cancun Sunsets

Misha and Shyam swiped right on each other all the way back in May 2017. At that point, Shyam was living in the quiet town of Odessa, Texas, a bit bored with his everyday life and ready to meet his special someone. Cut to Misha, whose pals had been championing Dil Mil like a mantra. One spontaneous night, she took the plunge and signed up to explore new connections. It was only a month later, in June 2017, that the wheels of conversation started turning. Shyam had sent her a message earlier, but she had another conversation going with someone else, so his message got sidelined. Once that chapter closed, she circled back to Shyam and they talked sporadically over the next 5 months sussing each other out, before their first date.

Shyam found himself battling cold feet five times before he finally mustered the courage to board a plane to Memphis, Tennessee, and meet Misha from November 9-13, 2017. He had never ventured to another state to meet a girl before, and that scared him. However, when he finally took that leap of faith, he knew he made the right choice and the rest as they say, is history. Picture the scene at the airport – the mounting anticipation, the nerves, the butterflies – it was as though it had been lifted straight from a Bollywood script. When Shyam laid eyes on Misha, he was certain he had made the correct decision, and on November 13, 2017, as their trip came to an end, he asked her to be his girlfriend.

Fast forward to July 2020, peak COVID time. Shyam’s now living in Dallas and Misha is visiting her family in Nashville, TN. After two months apart (gasp!), Shyam hatches a plan. “Hey, why don’t we hang in Memphis for the week?” he suggests, all casual-like. Meanwhile, Misha’s parents are playing sneaky cupid, insisting she gets dolled up with a new dress and fresh nails which obviously got her imagination running wild but she decided to go with the flow instead.

July 17th rolls around, and Misha drive back into Memphis where she finds Shyam waiting for her at her apartment. Two days of Netflix and chill later, July 19th arrives with a bang. Suddenly, Shyam’s all “Let’s get fancy for an early bird special at 4 PM!” meanwhile she´s not even hungry. He’s sweating buckets in a sports jacket, and it’s not just the 100-degree weather, folks! Misha’s spidey senses are tingling, but dinner comes and goes without a ring in sight. Then, Shyam suggests a romantic stroll in the park. In heels. In the heat. Cue Misha’s mini-meltdown and a growing headache. “Home. Advil. Now,” she demands.

But wait! Plot twist alert! Misha opens her apartment door to find… drumroll, please… Proposal Central! We’re talking photographer, family on FaceTime, hidden friends – the works! Talk about a home run surprise! And for our FRIENDS superfan Misha, it’s like her very own Monica and Chandler moment. Cue the happy tears and the “Oh. My. God!” in your best Janice voice!

The journey of love is often filled with potholes and speed bumps, and for Misha and Shyam, distance was their biggest challenge. They endured three years of long-distance dating before deciding they couldn’t do it anymore. So, they took the plunge, got engaged, and moved to Dallas, Texas together. Their strategy was smart – a long engagement that allowed them to truly get to know each other while living under the same roof.

They hosted a grand wedding celebration in Cancun in Nov 2022 around the same dates when Shyam had flown in to see Misha for their first date all those years ago. The wedding culminated with a sunset ceremony – a scene straight out of Misha´s dream and now they are nearing their 7th anniversary together! From swiping right on an app to swaying in each other’s arms on their wedding day, Misha and Shyam’s love story is a testament to love, and patience.
