Seriously, f*ck 2020. Now that the year is FINALLY behind us, it’s time to look ahead and see what 2021 has in store for us all. The overarching theme for 2021 for everyone is going to be making up for lost time. While things may never go back to the way they were, we’ll finally be able to start pursuing some of the things that were forced onto the backburner last year. Bring out that bucket list you’ve been building all of 2020 and get started. Where are you going to travel first, who are you going to visit first, and how many weddings are you going to be able to squeeze into your calendar?? Unfortunately for all of us single folks, that means dating pressure is also going to be back in full force. Get ready to face the aunties again, and read on for your 2021 fate.
You’ll feel re-energized and ready to tackle big challenges this year. You may get bit by the fitness bug and feel motivated to get rid of that uncle/aunty quarantine bod you’ve come to embrace over quarantine. Or you may channel that energy into a detox aimed at getting rid of bad habits. Maybe it’s chocolate after midnight, or 6 hours of TikTok every day — you know what you’re capable of and are ready to take on whatever’s stopping you from being the best version of yourself.
If 2020 taught you anything, it’s that we don’t have time to waste on things that don’t fill our cups. You’ll feel torn between the conventional ways and safe paths you’ve always been taught to pursue, and the radical new ideas and dreams that have been giving you sleepless nights. Don’t fight the urge to take that leap of faith and let yourself explore your heart’s desires.
You’re ready for that new new. New wardrobe, new job, new social circle, and maybe even a new romantic match?! The more you expand your horizons and push yourself to try new things, the more personal growth you’ll experience. You may not feel it in the short-term, but this growth will slowly bring you closer to your long-term dreams and ambitions, and to making papa proud.
If you’re being honest with yourself, you’re exhausted after the year we’ve all had. You’ll be seeking escapism in whatever form you can find it. Take the time to give yourself some mental and physical space to breathe. Meditate (a tactic that comes highly recommended from our ancestors), go on a retreat, or find ways to create pockets of peace in your daily routine. Taking a well-deserved break will allow you to loosen up and feel more open to new experiences.
The theme of the year for you is companionship. You’ll find yourself reflecting on the company you keep, and the company you seek. Along this journey, you’ll meet a new partner mid-year (could be romantic or platonic, though your mummy will be praying it’s romantic) that becomes a lifelong connection. This partner will help you grow and glow into your full potential over time, and become a muse for your creative efforts.
It was easy to fall into a rut last year, but this year is all about taking charge of your life. We all love our mummy, papa, but you need to live your life for you and set some boundaries if they’ve been getting a little too meddlesome for your liking. They might temporarily hate you for it, but when they see you grow and make progress towards your dreams as a result of it, they’ll come around!
You’ll be inspired by all the South Asian excellence you’ve been seeing in mainstream culture, and may feel like flexing your own creative muscle. Don’t let self-doubt get in your way, and pick a passion project to pursue. You don’t need to have thousands of Instagram followers or be the best there ever was for your art to matter. Anyone can be creative, and the first step is just getting started!
This may not be new news for your sign, but you *love* to control things. You’ve always embraced this as a core personality trait, but have noticed that it’s holding you back from being the best version of yourself. Some of the best things in life happen when you push yourself out of your comfort zone, and it’s time to practice letting go and letting things happen. If you commit to this in 2021, you can’t even begin to imagine the paths it will lead you down.
You want to do something big — you may not know quite what that is yet, but you know you’re tired of the status quo and want to make an impact and change things. Channel your inner revolutionary and take on a project that’s bigger than you. Just remember that change doesn’t always happen overnight, and small acts can be revolutionary too. Anything is better than doing nothing.
You’ve always been an honest and hard worker (that desi immigrant work ethic runs strong), but recent situations may have you second guessing if it’s all worth it. This year you’ll start to see the fruits of your labor, and will be rewarded for your hard work and dedication. A side hustle or passion project will take off, reinforcing your faith in the grind. Keep at it and just remember your self-worth in moments where others might try to convince you otherwise.
It’s all about you this year, Aquarius. The stars are aligned in your favor, which means it’s time to double down on everything your heart desires. Say yes, take that chance, and manifest your future! You’re also going to find yourself lucky in love — you may find yourself overwhelmed with choices like never before. Remember to keep the rishta aunties and meddling family at bay. Just stay true to yourself and remember what really matters when taking your pick.
When you’re busy trying to get your life on track, it can be all consuming. It’s easy to get caught up in your needs and wants as you chase one milestone after the next. It hasn’t been easy, but you’ll finally find yourself in a place where you feel content with exactly where you are in life, and grateful for everything you have. This realization will allow you to channel energy into helping others and making a bigger impact on friends, family, and even strangers.
