First Date Forecast: Severe Weather, Serious Intentions
January 3rd, 2022. 6AM in Vancouver. While most people were still asleep, Taj sent Navreen a simple message on Dil Mil: “How are you?” and Navreen immediately cut to the chase asking, “Are you looking for something serious or casual?” Taj replied, “I’m looking for something serious.” And apparently, he really meant it!
Two days of endless chit chat later, they had their first date. Taj drove nearly 20km through one of Vancouver’s heaviest snowstorms to see her. Navreen was convinced he would cancel. Honestly, most people probably would have. But Taj showed up anyway and what was supposed to be a quick meet turned into a 4-hour date (cut short only because the snowfall kept getting worse) and a 6-hour phone call once they got home. 6 days into talking, they both knew this was it!
From there, it just flowed. Their early months together weren’t built on grand gestures. They were built on small routines – coffee runs, long conversations, spontaneous plans, and always finding reasons to spend more time together. Coffee dates became their little ritual and they discovered a bond that went beyond just instant chemistry.
They were aligned in all the ways that mattered – culture, values, future goals, and the kind of love they both wanted to build. Even when navigating completely different family dynamics got challenging, they always approached it as a team. As Navreen puts it, one of her favorite things about Taj is his calm reassurance that “we’ll manage, we’ll handle it,” no matter what life throws at them. And so, on their first dating anniversary, they bought a condo and moved in together.
The proposal came in Roatán, Honduras – their first international trip. Taj said it was dinner and managed to keep it a surprise till the very end. The ocean, the warm night air, the excitement of being somewhere new together and ofc the man who drove through a blizzard just to meet her – down on one knee; a night Navreen will never forget.
Two years into their relationship, they got married in Ludhiana, India and somehow, the universe left them one final sign. Taj’s lucky number has always been 786. It shows up in his passwords (whoops – might need to change those now haha), phone numbers, everywhere. On the morning of their wedding, Navreen deposited her shoes at the Gurudwara and randomly got token number… 786.
And according to Navreen, despite all the emotional moments throughout their journey, the funniest part of the wedding was still watching Taj cry harder during the vidai than she did.
Some relationships take time to make sense. Theirs just flowed… Now it’s your turn to go with the flow!
