Different Continents, Same Playlist: The UK-USA Match That Beat the Odds
Most people panic when their food delivery is 30 minutes away, meanwhile Abhishek and Nandni built a relationship while living 4,300 miles apart. He was in London. She was in New Jersey. Neither of them knows exactly how they matched on Dil Mil. Maybe someone accidentally had their location set to âworldwide.â Maybe the dating-app gods decided to intervene. Either way, on May 21, 2022, a UK-USA match appeared. And thank goodness it did!Â
Forget cheesy pickup lines, their first real connection came through something much more serious: classic Hindi music. While most dating-app conversations die somewhere between âwhat do you do?â and âwyd?â, these two found themselves talking about their shared love of old-school Bollywood legends like Kishore Kumar and Udit Narayan. The conversation flowed naturally. Then it kept flowing. Instagram, iMessage, voice notes, FaceTime â multiple platforms, two countries and one increasingly obvious connection.Â
But there was just one tiny problem. An ocean. Unlike most couples who can grab coffee after matching, Abhishek and Nandni had no idea when or if theyâd meet in person. Then fate handed them an opening. Nandni was attending a family wedding in London and suddenly, the impossible became possible! And ofc in true desi fashion, she casually told her family she was meeting a âfriendâ hahah. Â
The first date almost didnât happen though. Well, technically it happened but it nearly broke Abhishekâs brain and he just forgot how to function for a moment. Abhishek had planned everything. He drove an hour to pick her up. He had the evening mapped out. He was ready or so he thought. When Nandni walked toward the car wearing a red floral dress, all preparation vanished instantly. Instead of getting out and greeting her, he just sat there staring through the window in complete shock. Nandni eventually had to knock on the glass to remind him that this wasnât a museum exhibit.. it was their first date and first dates generally require people to get out of their vehicles. After a long hug, though, everything felt easy. âThe conversation just flowed like a cup of chai,â Abhishek says.Â
One of the things we love most about this story is that it wasnât perfectly timed. Cause come on, every great love story needs a little tension. Abhishek knew pretty early on. Within five months, he was convinced Nandni was the person he wanted to spend his life with.Nandni, meanwhile, wasnât quite there yet. She took a year. Most people wouldâve gotten impatient, Abhishek stayed. And weirdly enough, that became one of the things Nandni loved most about him: he was willing to wait. She knew he wasnât chasing a fantasy. He was choosing her.
People often ask how long-distance couples make it work and long distance relationships often get reduced to airport reunions and dramatic countdowns.. For Abhishek and Nandni, the answer wasnât grand gestures. It was consistency. Good morning messages, FaceTime dinners, vacation planning sessions. counting down days until the next reunion. Finding ways to stay connected despite different time zones, careers, and daily routines. Because when youâre separated by thousands of miles, you learn very quickly that love is less about convenience and more about intention. One of their favourite memories is their first holiday together in Italy, where they celebrated their birthdays side by side instead of through a phone screen.Â
By 2025, Abhishek was ready to take the next step. And he was not joking around. Malta became the setting for what can only be described as a Bollywood-worthy proposal. The day started with a surprise salon appointment and a dress waiting for Nandni. Followed by a scenic drive across the island to a stunning cliffside setup overlooking the sea. As the sun began to set, Abhishek poured his heart out and got down on one knee and asked the question heâd been waiting to ask for years. Spoiler alert: she said yes.
In December 2025, surrounded by family, colour, food, music, and enough masti to fill a resort, Abhishek and Nandni celebrated their wedding in Anand, India. It was the kind of big-fat Indian wedding they had always imagined and one theyâll never forget. Â
If thereâs one thing Abhishek and Nandni want people to know, itâs this: distance isnât the thing that decides whether a relationship succeeds, effort is! When two people genuinely want to make it work, theyâll find a way to bridge oceans, time zones, airport terminals, and everything in between. So donât let geography make decisions for you.. Maybe turn that filter to worldwide?!
