PSA: Cousin Kamala Didn’t Actually Get an Arranged Marriage

She matched with the real love of her life while she was on a road trip.

Richa Moorjani – more popularly known as “Cousin Kamala” on Mindy Kaling’s latest Netflix show Never Have I Ever – took a road trip with a friend a few years ago who convinced her to download Dil Mil. Richa had been on some other dating apps on-and-off, but she had her doubts about anything real coming from them.

Regardless, her friend went ahead and made an account & started swiping for her while Richa drove. As her friend was swiping through profiles, Richa had just one rule to follow: do NOT swipe on anyone named Rishi (because that’s Richa’s brother’s name). Her friend came across Bharat’s profile, swiped right, and started talking to him when he messaged her. Things were going well, so she eventually gave him Richa’s number. Richa wasn’t expecting anything to come of it, but little did she know that within just a couple of hours of downloading Dil Mil, Richa had found the love of her life.

They talked and texted for a month before meeting for the first time on a Friday night at the Griffith Observatory in LA. The date couldn’t have gone any better. She thought he was super sweet, and it turned out they had a lot of things in common: they don’t drink too much, both are into meditation, they love traveling, and they love their culture & where they came from. Plus, they’re both big on family values and trying all the dessert spots in town. Once both sides of the family met, they all felt like they were destined to be one big happy family all along.

Fast forward to a couple of years later, when Bharat decided it was time to propose – he knew he wanted to do it in a way that felt unique to them. Richa is an actress, so he decided to get in touch with her acting agents in LA to plan everything. He had them email her and send her to a fake audition where someone pretended to be the casting director. He started asking her questions about love and relationships to get to know her for a “romantic comedy.” At the end of the audition he told her he had an actor he wanted her to do an improv scene with, and in walked Bharat. He got down on one knee and proposed with tears in his eyes. Richa obviously said yes, and after the proposal they went to a beautiful restaurant in Malibu with friends and family as a surprise.

Richa and Bharat been together for over 3 years now, and they recently got married in October 2019 in Cancun, Mexico! We’re so happy for these two lovebirds, and can’t wait for all the memories between them yet to come. #OnceUponADilMil
