Kirti and Akshay both knew what they wanted from life. Both were from Chicago, but at the time, Akshay was working and attending grad school in Philadelphia. Ever the go-getters, they both were so busy with their routines of work and school that they found it hard to meet anyone in person or make time for their dating lives. So, they both independently decided to get on Dil Mil and start finding the person of their dreams. When Kirti and Akshay matched with each other, they still found it super hard to meet each other – life and all of its responsibilities, which included work, school, travel and more were getting in the way. So, they resorted to getting to know one another through FaceTime instead! They did this a few times before they finally were able to meet in person. And when they did, their first date ended up being 6 hours long!
Kirti found that Akshay was genuine, honest, and real – something she appreciated immensely about him at first encounter. Despite their mutual habit of planning and delving into multiple different activities in life, they both decided the date would be spontaneous and that they would go with the flow. This turned out to be an amazing choice – the spontaneity of the date allowed for them to connect. They decided to hit up a local carnival and festival to play a few games. Suddenly, it started raining so they went to a mall to dry off and continue the date! At the mall, they picked each other’s clothing and got to know each other’s style. Then, they went to watch The Hitman’s Bodyguard in theatres. Both Kirti and Akshay had gotten super comfortable with one another. By the end of the date, the rain had stopped and they kissed each other goodbye – feeling mixed emotions about leaving. The success of their date was enough for them to start a relationship together.
Fast forward a year, both Kirti and Akshay had graduated from their programmes and were ready to meet each other’s families. At the same time, they decided they would announce that they were also planning on moving to San Jose together! So, they drove from Chicago to San Jose together – something that was super typical because of their mutual love for spontaneity and adventure.
After the first four months, they went back to Chicago to attend Akshay’s best friend’s wedding. Akshay realised that this would be the perfect time to propose to Kirti! So, less than a month later, the couple booked a trip to Napa Valley, California. While a couple took their photo, Akshay proposed. Kirti had no idea what was happening and only realised Akshay was proposing when people around them started clapping!
The duo decided to wed in 2020, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, they had to postpone their wedding 4 times and finally were able to host a celebration in 2021. For Kirti, she felt with Akshay, that it was a series of moments within their relationship which allowed her to discover that the ease and comfort she feels with him, is how relationships should be. They’ve been together since 2017, and recently welcomed a beautiful Dil Mil baby in January 2023💜
